Warwick Davis holds the world record for being the highest-grossing supporting actor of all time. He's appeared in numerous huge franchises, from Star Wars to The Chronicles of Narnia. Of course, one of his best-known roles is his portrayal of Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter movies. And he's not quite done with the Wizarding World just yet—as confirmed by HBO.

HBO's Harry Potter series began filming in July 2025, with a release expected sometime in 2027. The series features an all-new cast, headlined by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Numerous other key roles have also been filled, such as Hagrid (Nick Frost), Dumbledore (John Lithgow), Snape (Paapa Essiedu), and Professor McGonagall (Janet McTeer).

Warwick Davis returns as Filius Flitwick

When the casting of Warwick Davis was confirmed, the actor took to Instagram to share his excitement, which he deemed a "real homecoming" that he's "truly honoured" to take on.

In the caption, he wrote: "Hogwarts has always held a very special place in my heart. When I first stepped into Professor Flitwick’s robes all those years ago, I could never have imagined the journey this character — and the wizarding world — would take me on. Thank you to all the fans who have kept the magic alive — I can’t wait to see you back in the classroom. Here’s to further adventures at Hogwarts."

Davis appeared in all eight original Harry Potter movies, making him one of the most prolific actors in the franchise. He's the first actor to reprise his role from the original movies. There's been speculation about other actors returning—whether for the same roles or cameos—but nothing has been confirmed.

Newly announced cast members in HBO's Harry Potter series

As well as the casting of Davis, a number of other cast new members have been confirmed, with more students and Hogwarts professors being cast: Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, William Nash as Gregory Goyle, Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden as Professor Cuthbert Binns, Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey, and Leigh Gill as Griphook.

HBO has a 10-year commitment to adapting all seven Harry Potter novels. Once the project is complete, we'll be well into the mid-2030s.
