We finally know when the new Harry Potter TV series will premiere on HBO, thanks to an update from HBO CEO Casey Bloys.
In a new interview with Deadline, Bloys revealed that the Harry Potter TV series will be released in "early 2027," but he refused to share the actual premiere date or month.
Here's what Bloys told the outlet:
“We’ve been saying 2027. I would say, to narrow it down to some extent, early 2027. And now you’re going to ask, does that mean January, February, March, April, that we’re not ready to say. I’ll say early 2027.”

The Harry Potter series will premiere between January and April 2027
So, we know, now, unless something goes terribly wrong or there is a massive delay, we will see the Harry Potter series premiere sometime between January and April 2027.
It would be a great way to start 2027 with the upcoming series. We've seen HBO release big shows in January in the past. In the last two years, we've had The Pitt and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiere in January. Before that, The Last of Us also premiered in January 2023, so there's precedent to expect a big HBO release in the first month of the year.
Obviously, Harry Potter TV series will be way bigger than those shows, and I do think they'll be much more strategic with the release plans for the upcoming series.
We don't know exactly when production will end on the Harry Potter TV series, but there are some reports that production will wind down on season 1 sometime this spring. That would give the creative teams ample time to prep for the Q1 2027 release window as Bloys announced. If there are more delays or reshoots, we could see that release window look more like March or April rather than January or February, but we'll just have to wait and see how things develop.
There are eight episodes in the first season of the series, so we should see the season have a two-month season unless we get a double premiere or something like that. HBO doesn't usually do things like that, though.
Even though HBO hinted at a late 2026 release date when the project was announced, next year has always felt like the time the HBO series based on JK Rowling's best-selling book series would premiere.
We know most of the Harry Potter TV series cast by now. HBO has confirmed almost all of the cast for the upcoming series:
Actor | Character |
|---|---|
Dominic McLaughlin | Harry Potter |
Alastair Stout | Ron Weasley |
Arabella Stanton | Hermione Granger |
John Lithgow | Albus Dumbledore |
Nick Frost | Rubeus Hagrid |
Paapa Essiedu | Severus Snape |

We're still waiting to learn for a few casting announcements, including Voldemort. That's probably the biggest character in the series we're waiting to learn about, but we'll likely find out soon.
We'll share more updates about the Harry Potter series as we find out. Now that we know when the series is confirmed to be released, we probably won't learn the official month or release date until after production comes to an end this spring.
HBO also revealed that pre-production on Harry Potter season 2 had already begun.
