HBO is working on a new Game of Thrones prequel show: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin. Set decades after the events of House of the Dragon but decades before Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to be a gentler, lower stakes adventure in the Seven Kingdoms. It mainly follows two characters, the knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, as they travel around Westeros looking for work and helping those they can.

Originally, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was going to premiere on HBO sometime this year, but we learned not long ago that it was getting pushed back to 2026. That was disappointing. Now, we may have an inkling about why HBO made that choice: according to House the Dragons, a reliable account that keeps tabs on all things Game of Thrones-related, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently undergoing reshoots in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Shows do reshoots for all kinds of reasons; the first season of Game of Thrones famously reshot a bunch of stuff before its debut in 2011. In that case, major actors were swapped out, including the people playing Daenerys Targaryen and Michelle Fairley. I doubt the reshoots for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will go even close to that far, although right now we don't know to what extent HBO is retooling things.

For what it's worth, those who have seen A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ahead of time have given it positive reviews. Martin himself saw rough cuts of all six episodes and "loved" all of them. He's hardly an unbiased observer, but he's also willing to criticize shows within the Game of Thrones universe when he feels it necessary, so I think his enthusiastic endorsement counts for a lot.

I wish the show were coming out this year, but hopefully the reshoots make it as good as it can be. Part of me wonders if they're reshooting things to make it easier to transition into future seasons; we've heard from multiple sources that HBO is already laying the groundwork to adapt more of Martin's novellas. But we'll have to wait to be sure.

While we're talking about reshoots, Redanian Intelligence reports that Netflix reshot parts of the fourth season of The Witcher earlier this year; the studio is currently working on the fifth and final season. The Witcher season 4 is presumably due out this year, although we don't have a firm release date yet, which makes me think Netflix may push that back as well. We'll keep tabs on things.
