HBO just shared a new trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and it's a good one!
The two-minute-plus trailer is our most in-depth look at the series yet. It lands about one month before the premiere of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
HBO also shared the trailer during its A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms panel at CCXP 2025 in São Paulo, Brazil, on Thursday, Dec. 4. We're following along with the panel just in case there are other big news or information shared by the cast and creative team attending.
The trailer introduces audiences to Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey. As a character points out, Dunk is a hedge knight, which is "like a real knight... but sadder." The series follows Dunk on his various adventures around the non-luxurious parts of Westeros with young squire, Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell. Egg is also known more formally as Aegon Targaryen. You know the name.
This trailer is an absolute work of art. It's perfectly paced and gives viewers just enough information about the story to be intrigued. It's also hilarious! It sure doesn't seem like Dunk has a good handle on being a knight. Even Egg, when he asks to be his squire, tells Dunk, "Every knight needs a squire, and you like you need one more than most." I might have to hang up the boots, armor, and sword and find a new job if a kid called me out like that.
We shared the synopsis for the series, via HBO:
"A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
While there are some Lords and Ladies of Westeros in the series, they will be few and far between, it sounds like. The series will explore more of more common folk of Westeros about 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on George R.R. Martin's stories, Tales of Dunk and Egg. The series was developed by Martin and Ira Parker.
In addition to Claffey and Ansell, Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, and Daniel Monks round out the rest of the cast.
The series consists of six episodes airing on Sunday nights in the new year on HBO and HBO Max. The network has already renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for season 2 and season 3, as well. Those seasons will be released in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episodes will air a little bit later than House of the Dragon. New episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be available to watch starting at 10 p.m. EST on Sunday nights starting on Jan. 18, 2026.
