House of the Dragon season 3 is about to take flight, and it seems HBO Max has decided to leverage its biggest release of the summer to roll out an update to its subscription costs. Thankfully, though, rather than hiking prices just ahead of its biggest release, HBO is slashing the cost of its annual subscription plan in a major way!Â
Now through July 15, HBO Max is discounting its annual subscription plans by a whopping 40 percent. This sale applies to all three tiers and will apply to its Basic with Ads, Standard, and Premium plans, leading to a savings of up to $65 on the plans.Â
During the sale period, subscribers can get 12 months of HBO Max for as low as $6.58 a month as part of the sale, which is quite the bargain considering how many amazing releases are still ahead this year.Â
Not only will House of the Dragon kick off its highly anticipated third season on June 21, but the months ahead will feature several new and returning series, including Lanterns, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, and Harry Potter. And these are just titles coming in 2026. 2027 will be full of amazing new seasons such as the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the third season of The Last of Us.Â
The timing of HBO Max’s discount could not come at a better time for Game of Thrones fans, and it’s nice to see a streaming platform lowering its price before a big release instead of hiking the prices. We’ve seen this happen far too often in recent months with streaming services announcing price changes ahead of notable releases, doing so at a time when they know subscribers are unlikely to cancel their subscriptions.Â
What is even better about this particular deal is that it’s available to both new and existing subscribers. Rather than trying to simply use House of the Dragon’s new season to lure in new subscribers with the discounted rates, HBO Max is making the discount available to loyal subscribers who might be looking to save some cash by taking advantage of the sale and switching to an annual subscription.
Fans will want to act fast though, as this sale won’t last forever. Following this limited-time promotion, we likely won’t see HBO Max plans go on sale until closer to Thanksgiving, so there is no time like the present if you’ve been looking to make the switch to an annual plan and want to save a little money in the process.Â
