A new season of House of the Dragon is not the only thing Game of Thrones fans can look forward to this month! Weeks before the release of the highly anticipated third season of House of the Dragon, Warner Bros. Games and HBO have announced the global launch of Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, a new free-to-play mobile strategy game.

“We’re thrilled to bring Game of Thrones: Dragonfire to mobile players with an immersive strategy experience that is very authentic to House of the Dragon,” said JB Perrette, CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games, Warner Bros. Discovery. “Our Warner Bros. Boston team did an amazing job creating a game true to the Game of Thrones world for fans, inviting them to build their legacy, forge alliances, and define their own battle for Westeros.”

Developed by Warner Bros. Games Boston, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire looks to transport players into the world of Westeros during the Targaryen Civil War to begin their own journey as a dragonrider. The new mobile strategy game, which is now available for download on both the App Store and Google Play, welcomes players into the world as a rising dragonrider, giving players the chance to rise through the ranks by hatching, raising, and commanding dragons who can help them on their journey to seizing control of King’s Landing.

“With Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, we wanted to put the world of House of the Dragon directly into players’ hands,” said Matt Read, Vice President and Studio Head, Warner Bros. Games Boston. “From commanding dragons to navigating the choices that shape Westeros, we focused on creating a game that feels true to the universe fans love while giving them room to play their own way. Our team in Boston is excited to share the game for fans to engage with the world they know and love.”

One of the things that fans love most about House of the Dragon is the series’ many incredible and iconic dragons, who play a pivotal role in the series. It’s no surprise that Game of Thrones: Dragonfire leans into this fan-favorite aspect of the show by featuring a whopping 28 unique dragons, including both beloved dragons from the show such as Caraxes and Syrax as well as new dragons created specifically for the game.

Each new dragon was created in close collaboration with the House of the Dragon brand partners, with the show’s iconic dragon breeds informing the various dragon breeds featured within the game: Champion Breed, Hunter Breed, Sentinel Breed, and Warrior Breed. The game developers worked incredibly hard to make dragons the star of the game by working to fulfill the fantasy of being a dragonrider. The goal of the game is to make players feel like they’re raising the dragons, working with HBO and brand partners to create hatchling versions of some of House of the Dragon’s most iconic dragons.

Players will be able to field up to five dragon-led armies to lead coordinated marches, strategic assaults, and defensive maneuvers across a tiled map. Though players can also enjoy a Dragon Strike minigame to unleash fire on your enemies by flying through Westeros and evading obstacles.

For those who are looking to conquer Westeros, the game aims to keep things interesting, like in the shows, by featuring limited-time seasonal reigns, which will reset the competition and introduce new storylines – but don’t worry, dragon growth will remain in place, allowing for long-term progression for players. And it won’t just be familiar dragons from House of the Dragon you’ll encounter!

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire features all of our favorite characters from the show, weaving them into the narrative of the game with player choices and performances informing the storylines. By completing objectives in the game, players will be able to unlock special scenes, while first-of-its-kind technology from HBO Max and Warner Bros. Games will allow players to link their accounts to earn in-game rewards. Players who link their accounts will be able to secure rewards for watching each episode of House of the Dragon season 3, with each new episode unlocking an in-game reward as well as a premium reward for watching the full season.

It’s yet another reason to watch House of the Dragon, not that players will need one as season 3 promises to be the show’s most ambitious season yet!
