House of the Dragon star Emma D'Arcy didn't win a Golden Globe but did look great on the Red Carpet

House of the Dragon went home empty-handed at this year's Golden Globe Awards, but the stars at least showed up in style.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards have wrapped up on CBS. It was a great year for TV, with series like Shōgun, The Penguin, True Detective: Night Country and more taking home well-deserved awards.

One show that didn't get much love this year was HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, which stars Emma D'Arcy as queen-in-exile Rhaenyra Targaryen. D'Arcy got the show's lone Golden Globe nomination for its second season, which aired in 2024. They were up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama, alongside Kathy Bates (Matlock), Maya Erskine (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Keira Knightley (Black Doves), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and Anna Sawai (Shōgun).

In the end, Anna Sawai took home the award for her bracing performance as Toda Mariko in Shōgun, as expected. Kudos to her. But just because D'Arcy didn't win the award doesn't mean they couldn't cut a memorable figure on the red carpet:

Although they haven't been going to these kinds of awards shows for very long, D'Arcy has already built a reputation for dressing a bit outside the box. Here, they're wearing a kind of exaggerated black-and-white suit with a huge ruffle at the top and a stream of white fabric falling down the right sleeve. it's the kind of innovation we've come to expect from D'Arcy at these events.

D'Arcy wasn't the only House of the Dragon who turned up for the ceremony. Tom Glynn-Carney — who plays Rhaenyra's half-brother and rival for the Iron Throne, King Aegon II Targaryen — was also there, looking very intense with a wet head of helmet hair:

Glynn-Carney wasn't nominated for anything at this particular ceremony, but if you ask me his work as King Aegon should have been acknowledged; I think he knocked that performance out of the park. I'm excited to see what he, D'Arcy and the rest of the House of the Dragon cast bring when season 3 premieres on HBO and Max sometime in 2026.

In the meanwhile, congratulations to all the Golden Globes winners! That also includes Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobb in The Penguin, Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in Shōgun, and Demi Moore in The Substance, which was a great sci-fi/horror film that came out this year. Shōgun also won Best TV Drama, and Wicked was given an award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
