House of the Dragon star Tom Glynn-Carney may be joining Marvel's new X-Men movie

Marvel is officially casting the X-Men! Well, actually it's unofficially casting the X-Men. The rumors are FLYING fast and furious.

For years, Marvel Studios was unable to integrate the X-Men, one of the most famous superhero teams of all time, into its Marvel Cinematic Universe. That was because 20th Century Fox owned the screen rights to the X-Men. But then Marvel's parent company Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019. Outside of a couple fun cameos, we have yet to see an actual X-Man mutant appear in a Marvel movie from Disney. But we know that's going to change, and likely soon.

Hunger Games screenwriter Michael Lesslie has been working on a script for something, and there have been a lot of casting rumors flying around lately. Sadie Sink from Stranger Things may play Jean Grey. Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things may play Wolverine. Javier Bardem may play the villain Mister Sinister. Avatar star Jack Champion may play Cyclops. The Bear's Ayo Edebiri may play Storm, and so on. There's even talk of Denzel Washington playing Magneto.

Even if most of these rumors don't end up being true, it's clear that things are happening. Another new rumor hits close to home for us here at WinterIsComing, as rumor monger Jeff Snieder reports on The Hot Mic podcast that House of the Dragon star Tom Glynn-Carney had a meeting with Marvel about playing someone in the upcoming X-Men movie, and that it "went well."

Glynn-Carney was the highlight of the second season of House of the Dragon; as King Aegon, he was excellent at suggesting a lot of inner turmoil under the surface of his conflicted character. I'm sure he could pull off pretty much whatever role he's given, but if I had to choose one character from the X-Men franchise for whom Glynn-Carney would be especially suited. I'm gonna go with...Nightcrawler, the all-blue, all-Catholic teleporting trickster of the team. He was played by Alan Cumming in the Fox series of films.

Nightcrawler, real name Kurt Wagner, is a smart guy who has a lot going on behind the eyes, which I think would be a good fit for an actor of Glynn-Carney's talents. Plus, I can see Glynn-Carney embodying the role physically. He doesn't exactly have the shape of someone like, I dunno, Juggernaut.

But hey, maybe we'll also learn who be playing Juggernaut before long, too. With all these rumors going around, I expect some concrete news in the near future.
