Interview With The Vampire is finally tackling Lestat's story in season 3, and actor Sam Reid is ready to rock out!

For its first two seasons, the AMC adaptation followed the first book in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles novels. It expanded on the storyline, updating it a bit as Louis du Pointe de Lac (Jacob Anderson) shared the tale of how he was seduced and turned into a vampire by the suave Lestat (Sam Reid).

As season 2 revealed, Lestat had survived an apparent death and wasn't very happy with how Louis and reporter Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) portrayed him in their book. So, Lestat is preparing to tell his side of the story… while also forming his own rock band.

This might seem an odd move for Lestat, but when speaking to Entertainment Weekly for a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, Reid pointed out it's a natural progression of the man's flamboyant style and "performative" nature.

"Lestat is a bit of a mercurial character himself, and there's something very interesting about a character who would love to play a symphony as well as a David Bowie song," Reid stated. "How he incorporates all of his influences and how he discovers his personal sound is part of the journey of the show."

Reid worked with David Hart to make sure the rock lyrics and singing were right, and he enjoyed the challenge of making it all work. "I hope people are happy," he shared. "You know that some people are never going to be happy, but all we can do is approach it with love and care, which we are. There's a lot of love and care being put into it."

While seeing Lestat rock out will be wild, the season will also delve more into his past with Louis, including revealing how some elements of Louis' story from the first two seasons may not be that accurate.

Lestat's side of the tale will be different

Fans of the novels are aware that while Louis recounts his story as he sees it, "truth" can often be subjective, depending on the beholder's perspective. This is why season 3 will feature Lestat discussing the events of the past two seasons, but in a different context, including details that Louis was unaware of.

That may throw doubt on Louis' version, but Reid was quick to point out that it doesn't mean Louis was lying; he was just out of the loop on some details. But that doesn't mean viewers should be totally trusting Lestat's version of the story either.

"I don't think we should ever try and say that Louis is a liar or unreliable — he's remembered things that are perfectly valid," Reid added. "But I don't think that Lestat has the same intention to tell his story as Louis has. He's not trying to necessarily unpack something that might be wound in his head incorrectly. Lestat is much more aware of the structures in which the storytelling might or might not take place. If [Lestat is] unreliable, he's intentionally being unreliable as opposed to being potentially hoodwinked by a series of events. Lestat is slightly different [than Louis], I would say. They're both unreliable in their own way, but I don't think one is more or less than the other. One might be more intentional than the other."

Reid is hopeful fans will enjoy season 3, reminding them the show isn't meant to follow the books "line-for-line" but expand on the themes. While filming is underway, season 3 of Interview With The Vampire looks to rock fans with Lestat's amazing story.

The first two seasons of Interview With The Vampire are streaming on AMC+.
