Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will star alongside Tom Holland in the next Spider-Man movie. That film, to be helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and produced by Amy Pascal and Marvel President Kevin Feige, will refresh Peter Parker's story after all memory of him as Spider-Man was wiped from the world at the end of No Way Home.

Sink is best known for playing fan-favorite Max in Netflix's Stranger Things, which returns for its fifth and final season later this year. There's currently no word on who she's playing in the upcoming Spider-Man film, but one of the most popular choices is X-Men character Jean Grey, previously played by Sophie Turner in the X-Men movie franchise. Jean Grey has red hair like Sink, and it's known that Marvel has plans to bring the X-Men into the MCU, hence the speculation.

During an appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Sink weighed in on the rumors linking her with Jean Grey. "I mean, this is news to me," she admitted. When asked whether Kevin Feige has brought up the idea with her, she didn't elaborate. "No, I have nothing to say about this. The rumors are really cool, though. It's an awesome rumor… It's a great character, so it's cool to read."

In addition, Sink shared her excitement for taking on a role in the Marvel franchise, whatever it is: "I think that's super exciting." Another possibility is that she's playing Mary Jane Watson, an iconic love interest of Peter Parker's from the Spider-Man comic books; notably, Mary Jane is also a redhead.

SInk is poised to play a big role in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, despite her character being left blind and in a coma at the end of season 4. We already know that the final season starts after a fairly big time jump, and it appears that in the time that's passed she'll be back up and running.

The new Spider-Man film is set to release on July 31st, 2026. Sink's latest big-screen foray, O'Dessa, is now in theaters.
