Jenna Coleman teases "visually stunning" second season of The Sandman

Jenna Coleman teases the return of The Sandman in 2025. She says it's more cinematic and visually stunning in style, and retains everything good about season 1.

Jenna Coleman, who portrays Johanna Constantine in Netflix’s The Sandman, is coming back for the upcoming second season. Although she can’t reveal many details about her return — the NDAs are strict — the British actress recently confirmed that she will appear in the upcoming new episodes.

Jenna Coleman played sorcerer and occultist for hire Johanna Constantine in season 1. Her big appearance came in episode 3, "Dream a Little Dream of Me," where she assists Dream (Tom Sturridge) in recovering his pouch of sand. She would also return later in episode 6, "The Sound of Her Wings," to play Lady Johanna Constantine, her other character's ancestor.

Looking ahead to season 2, it seems her character will take on a larger role than she has in The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman, though we don't know by how much. On the page, the character is John Constantine, but the show switched things up. While her return was intended to be something of a secret, Coleman is very aware that the cat's out the bag. "Yeah. Yeah, I think I'm allowed to say that. I'm pretty sure I am. Well, I was seen on set actually, so yeah, I definitely am. Yeah. Yeah, I'm back in Season 2," she told ScreenRant.

Coleman went on to tease the more cinematic style of season 2: "I'd say [season two] is probably more visually stunning than it was the first year. I mean, I've done bits of ADR. What can I say without Allan Heinberg shouting at me? The scale is, I mean, it's so cinematic and so I think it's a very unique show. So yeah, everything that you loved in Season 1 is there and more for sure."

By "more visually stunning," I hope she means that the team has sorted out the odd lens stretch effect that didn't quite work in season 1.

The Sandman season 2 will tell some of the comic's most revered stories, from the Season of Mists storyline to Brief Lives. We'll also be introduced to the final three members of the Endless: Delirium (Esme Creed-Miles), Destruction (Barry Sloane), and Destiny (Adrian Lester).

Netflix has not confirmed that season 2 is the final installment, but all signs point towards it being the end of the road. As for a release date, Netflix has not set one yet. Sometime in the first half of 2025 seems like a solid estimate.
