The latest installment in the overarching Jurassic Park series is more than living up to its name. Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth hit theaters less than a month ago, and in that timeframe has all but guaranteed a continued and vibrant future for the storied franchise.

Not only did the film bring in a massive opening weekend box office total that surpassed even the most optimistic of prognostications, and not only has it continued to hold steady at the box office since then as it faces off against the likes of Superman, but the film has also led to renewed interest in the franchise as a whole, as demonstrated by their series’ reinvigorated streaming numbers.

In the weeks since the new film debuted, the Jurassic Park and subsequent Jurassic World films have seen a collective uptick in views on Universal’s own designated streaming platform, Peacock, as reported by Deadline. There has been a 51% increase in viewing hours, week-over-week, for the franchise as a whole. More specifically, Jurassic World Dominion, the most recent installment immediately prior to Jurassic World Rebirth, saw a 186% boost in viewing hours in the first week of the new film’s release.

Jurassic World Rebirth is the most popular sci-fi movie of the year

Considering these impressive stats, plus the fact that the movie now sits in the No. 4 spot at the 2025 global box office, there’s no doubt Jurassic World Rebirth is the biggest sci-fi movie of the year—at least, so far. It’ll be competing with Avatar: Fire and Ash, James Cameron’s next sequel in his super lucrative franchise, releasing on December 19.

This cross-platform success is a testament to the strength of the Jurassic Park IP in audiences’ minds. Steven Spielberg’s seminal 1993 film became such an overwhelming global phenomenon that over three decades later, viewers across the world are still chomping at the bit for more.

Tellingly, alternative dinosaur-centric cinematic outings, such as the Adam Driver-led 65, have performed notoriously poorly at the box office in the years since the original Jurassic Park’s release. The Jurassic franchise seems to have cornered the market on dino-mayhem, and Jurassic World Rebirth has been instrumental in reminding audiences just why they love these films so much.

Expect more sequels

Considering just what a rousing success the film has been thus far, driving audiences out to the theater and further inspiring them to watch more of the franchise once they get home, there is little doubt that stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali will all be facing off against dinosaurs once more, sooner rather than later. While the film was met with relatively tepid reviews from critics, the general consensus was far kinder than the critical reaction had been to the two prior entries, and audiences seem to agree that this is a stronger outing.

Many of Universal’s tentpole franchises are preparing to come to an end, with the final installments of both Fast & Furious and Wicked coming in the near future. To this end, the studio is looking for franchises they can continue to expand and explore, and given the massive theatrical and streaming success of the Jurassic World films, this series doesn’t look to be going anywhere anytime soon.
