AMC's crime thriller Dark Winds is available to stream on Netflix, but not for long.
The first two seasons of the show, on which Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin and actor Robert Redford serve as executive producers, are leaving the streaming service on Aug. 19, according to a report from Collider.
Why you should watch Dark Winds
The show, created by Graham Roland, is based on a series of novels by Tony Hillerman, which take place on the lands of the Navajo Nation in the American Southwest. The show's key protagonists are Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee, played brilliantly by Zach McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon, respectively.

While crime dramas are far from unusual, the setting for Dark Winds is unique. Never has a show of this genre been so dedicated to highlighting the culture of the Navajo. From illustrating the day-to-day trials of everyday life on the reservation to the underlying mysticism of the Navajo peoples’ belief system, Dark Winds is unblinking.
The mysteries are intriguing, and the styles of investigating and apprehending criminals are far different from those in the usual urban crime dramas. The show is well worth the time to watch.
Plus, it’s a relatively short binge
Seasons 1 and 2 of Dark Winds are only six episodes long, still giving audiences plenty of time to watch those seasons before they leave Netflix on Aug. 19.
Season 3, with eight episodes, aired this past spring on AMC, and that network has renewed the show for at least a fourth season. There are 18 books in the Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee series, so the show can continue for as long as the network wants.

This show is unique enough and is made well enough to deserve a large, passionate fan base and a large run. The acting is superb and the production is top-notch. There is a lot to be excited about if you are a crime thriller fan or if you just want to try something new.
All three seasons are available on AMC+ and are expected to remain there indefinitely in case you miss your chance with Netflix. Be sure to add Dark Winds to your must-watch list.
