If you were to tell The Walking Dead fans a few years back that both Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) would have their own spinoff together, everyone would've laughed. If you were then to say that in the second season, Maggie would wield the barbed-wire baseball bat that killed her husband, it'd just seem out-of-the-question ridiculous. But here we are.
In case you haven't worked it out yet, we're talking about The Walking Dead: Dead City. In our review of season 1, we called it the franchise's best spinoff yet. While that accolade has been steamrolled by subsequent spinoffs The Ones Who Live and Daryl Dixon, we're still very excited for season 2.
In Dead City season 1, Maggie surprisingly recruited sworn enemy-turned-ally Negan to assist her in reclaiming her son Hershel, who was kidnapped and taken to the heart of a community in Manhattan. The two worked together until the very last moment, when Negan found out the the entire scheme was an intricate plan to deliver him right into the hands of the Dama, the powerful leader of Manhattan's new civilization.
This brings us to season 2, which sees Negan once again take up a position of power. He also rebuilds his infamous barbed-wire covered baseball bat, named Lucille, years after burning the original in a fire. Meanwhile, Maggie deals with being a mother to a rebellious teenager. Naturally, both Maggie and Negan lock horns again. Check out the trailer above!
The trailer is pretty epic, with a focus on Negan building out Manhattan island into a stronghold. One of the biggest talking points, however, is when Maggie takes hold of Lucille. "Maggie with Lucille is CRAZY," one user wrote. "the clip of maggie holding lucille like it’s sooooooooo sick it’s sick and twisted" another posted.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 premieres May 3 on AMC. If you want to catch up before then, the first season is now available to watch on Netflix!
