Maisie Williams teams up with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Dexter Sol Ansell for roadtrip movie 500 Miles

Dexter Sol Ansell probably isn't playing Maise Wlliams' squire in the new roadtrip movie 500 Miles, but it'll still be really fun to see these two Game of Thrones franchise stars onscreen together.

It's always nice to hear about Game of Thrones veterans continuing their acting work in new projects, and today we've got a fun one. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays the irascible squire Egg in HBO's upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series, has joined the cast of a new roadtrip movie called 500 Miles. The film's all about two brothers who go in search of their estranged grandfather; Ansell will play one of them, named Charlie. Also in the cast is none other than Maisie Williams, whose performance as Arya Stark made her a fan-favorite on Thrones.

What would it be like if Egg and Arya, two characters notorious for speaking their minds, crossed paths? Well, we won't get to find that out in 500 Miles, but it's still fun to think about now that we have a reason to think about it. Williams plays Kait in the film, who I'm assuming is someone that the two adventuring brothers come across in their travels. In addition to Ansell and Williams, the film stars Roman Griffin Davis as Charlie's older brother Finn and Bill Nighy as their grandfather, as well as Clare Dunne and Michael Socha.

500 Miles is based on the popular book Charlie and Me: 421 Miles From Home by Mark Lowery. (And no, I'm not sure how the movie is adding an extra 79 miles. Maybe the brothers make an extra detour?) An official synopsis reads that it's "a life-affirming road movie that follows runaways Finn (Davis) and his livewire younger brother Charlie (Ansell) on a journey over land and sea to find their estranged grandfather (Nighy) on Ireland’s stunning and wild West Coast.”

Williams, Nighy, and Davis already signed on to 500 Miles a while back, but Ansell and the rest have only officially joined the production as of this past week. That's some pretty great timing, considering that Ansell was previously busy with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which only wrapped filming in mid-September. He's keeping busy! And just as an aside, I can't help but be curious whether Charlie will be bald in the movie, since Ansell shaved his head to play the roll of Egg and I imagine his hair hasn't fully grown back by now. We'll find out whenever we see images or footage from the film, I guess.

500 Miles is actually already filming in Ireland, so this roadtrip is well underway. The movie is directed by Morgan Matthews (X+Y), and is being produced by Origin Pictures, Port Pictures and Minnow Films. Obviously, there's no release date yet since the film is in the thick of shooting, but I'd keep an eye out for it sometime in 2025!
