Matt Smith teases 'more epic' House of the Dragon season 3, and I can't wait

If you thought House of the Dragon couldn't get any more epic, think again. Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) promises plenty more "blood and guts" in season 3.

House of the Dragon season 2 was epic from beginning to end. The blood-soaked Targaryen civil war reached new levels, and Matt Smith's hot-headed Daemon Targaryen, of course, accounted for some of the violence.

Looking ahead to season 3, which is currently in the midst of filming, Smith promises plenty more "blood and guts"—as if the show wasn't brutal enough to begin with. "I think we've tried to be bigger and better this year," he shared with Entertainment Tonight. "The scale of the show this year does feel a lot bigger and more epic."

With the upcoming season currently filming, Smith also teased that the scale of production feels bigger than ever. "We're coming to the final few months of filming, and we've got a lot of big set pieces to get through. There's a lot of blood and a lot of guts, I'll say that," he added.

Smith's cunning and ruthless Daemon will undoubtedly be the epicentre of chaos once more in season 3. Plenty of battles lie ahead, such as the Battle of the Gullet—which should directly follow the season 2 finale—and the First Battle of Tumbleton, among others.

Smith's latest big screen foray is Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing, where he stars alongside Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz. The film releases in theaters this Friday. August 29.

Olivia Cooke on the "mad" experience filming season 3

If what Smith said wasn't enough, star Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) has also weighed in on filming. Speaking to Screen Rant while promoting her latest project, Amazon Prime Video's The Girlfriend, Cooke revealed the long and gruelling timeline of filming. "We started in April, so we are done in October. We're over halfway and it's massive," she said.

In terms of scope, she puts it simply: "It is actually ridiculous. It's actually ridiculous and it's a lot of practical, huge stunt work. It's mad."

House of the Dragon season 3 doesn't have a release date yet, but it's expected to premiere in 2026. Also coming in 2026 is a new Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, starring Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon V Targaryen (better known by his nickname, Egg).
