Amazing news for fans of Murderbot, the comedic sci-fi series on Apple TV+: Deadline reports that the streamer has officially renewed the show for season 2. Now you can go into its season finale tomorrow with the reassurance that you will definitely get to see what happens next for Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård) and the rest of its friends. (Okay, clients, not friends. Never friends.)
“We’re so grateful for the response that Murderbot has received, and delighted that we’re getting to go back to Martha Wells’ world to work with Alexander, Apple, CBS Studios and the rest of the team,” said showrunners Chris and Paul Weitz.

Apple has had an excellent run of good science fiction shows, from Foundation to Severance to Silo to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Murderbot fits perfectly with the studio's brand of premium quality sci-fi, and it sounds like they're pretty happy with how it's been received.
“Chris, Paul, Alexander and the entire Murderbot team have delivered a brilliantly original, addictive, witty and vibrant adaptation that has captured the imagination of audiences everywhere," said Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss. "We can’t wait to unveil what’s next for Murderbot and, of course, ‘Sanctuary Moon’ in season two.”
There's plenty of source material ahead for the show, so this renewal comes with a great sigh of relief for fans who have been hoping to see it adapt more of Martha Wells' book series The Murderbot Diaries. The first season only covers the first novella, All Systems Red. After that, there are four other novellas and two full-length novels still to go, and that's not counting any of the new material Wells is still writing, like two more expected novels and a brand new short story that's about to come out.
This renewal means we're definitely going to see ART, the fan-favorite transport ship AI introduced in the second novella, in the show! It'll be interesting to see how Murderbot navigates season 2, and how much of its ensemble cast returns for the next adventure. In addition to Skarsgård, Murderbot stars Noma Dumezweni (Mensah), David Dastmalchian (Gurathin), Sabrina Wu (Pin-Lee), Akshay Khanna (Ratthi), Tattiawna Jones (Arada), and Tamara Podemski (Bharadwaj).
The season 1 finale of Murderbot premieres tomorrow, July 11, on Apple TV+! As for season 2, we'll have our ear to the ground for updates.
