Apple TV just confirmed the Murderbot season 2 cast, and it's absolutely massive.

After its incredible first season of Murderbot premiered back in May 2025, the season 2 renewal arrived a few months later. It was only a matter of time before we started getting information on season 2.

Apple TV is no stranger to amazing sci-fi series. In fact, it’s really the streaming platforms' bread and butter, with some of their most critically acclaimed shows falling into the category. Murderbot is an adaptation of the popular Murderbot Diaries books. The series stars Alexander Skarsgård in the lead role.

Let's take a look at the rest of the cast!

Who is in the Murderbot season 2 cast?

Along with Skarsgård, Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski will return for season 2, according to Apple TV.

The streamer also revealed several recurring guest stars are also returning, including Clark Gregg, John Cho, DeWanda Wise, and Jack McBrayer.

As for the new cast members, we're going to be seeing Tramell Tillman, Steve Buscemi, Katy O’Brien, Nicholas Braun, Brendan Hunt, Topher Grace, Patton Oswalt, and Wanda Sykes in season 2, according to a report from Variety.

For Apple TV fans, a couple of these names should sound familiar. Tillman became a huge star thanks to his role in Severance, where he plays Mr. Milchick, and earned widespread praise for his performance in season 2 (and a Primetime Emmy Award). Hunt co-stars in the Apple TV series Ted Lasso as Coach Beard, a role he returned to for season 4.

Some of the other stars, like Grace, O’Brian, and Braun, are fantastic additions to the cast. Grace has appeared in various movies and television shows but is primarily known for his role in That ‘70s Show. O’Brian has appeared in shows like The Walking Dead, The Mandalorian, and Black Lightning. Braun’s career exploded when he played Greg on Succession on HBO.

I also have to mention the Buscemi. For a series like Murderbot, he fits in well with a few other big stars on the cast list, including comedians Sykes and Oswalt

What Murderbot is about — and what to expect in season 2

If you saw all these big names but don't really know what Murderbot is all about, this is for you.

Murderbot is based on a series of novellas and novels by Martha Wells that tell the story of a cyborg called a "SecUnit." In this world, the bot is socially awkward. It hacked its corporate control module, so it gained free will and just wants to be left alone, but it ends up interacting with humans and other AI individuals and building connections along the way.

Murderbot is a hilarious adaptation, and Skarsgård really does a very good job in the lead role, but adding this many stars for season 2 makes me wonder where they will go with this story. There are several Murderbot Diaries books to adapt from. Most are quite small, but there’s plenty of lore to pick from.

We know the first season only covered All Systems Red, the first novella in the series. That makes me think the second novella will be the main story the TV show adapts, which, admittedly, makes a lot of sense.

The second is called Artificial Condition and introduces a whole new slew of characters — which would explain the massive number of stars added to season 2. The novella covers Murderbot looking into a mining facility and trying to figure out why 57 humans were killed there. It would be an interesting mystery for a potential season 2.

However, in May 2025, co-creator Paul Weitz told Nexus Point News that they might end up moving things around in the story to keep things fresh.

“We would talk with Martha Wells [the author]. We might end up shuffling the deck a little bit, using some stuff from, say, the 3rd or 4th book with stuff from the second book, but we don’t know yet.”

This was before the series was even renewed for season 2, so clearly there’s been a shift if so many actors have signed on. One can only wonder what kind of story we’ll experience next.
