It’s been so long since we’ve gotten an update on Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed live-action series that some fans might have honestly forgotten the show was in the works. The series was first announced in July 2025, a whopping five years after Netflix first began developing the series.
Months after the series was given the green light to begin production, filming finally began in April 2026, and now it seems that filming has officially wrapped! According to Inside Line, filming on Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series is complete, which means the show has hit a major milestone in its production. In fact, with filming wrapped, there is now a very good chance that Assassin’s Creed season 1 will hit Netflix sometime in mid-to-late 2027.
Typically, effects-heavy genre programs such as Assassin’s Creed take roughly six to eight months to complete in post-production once filming has finished. While it’s unclear when exactly filming wrapped, if we work on the assumption that filming concluded at the end of October, that means post-production could be completed as early as April or May 2027, which could then pave the way for Netflix to debut the show as early as Summer 2027.
Given how long it has taken to bring this adaptation to the small-screen, it’s so exciting to know that the show is finally in the home stretch! Sure, there might end up being some reshoots during post-production, which is common in television, but knowing that the filming is now complete, we can start allowing ourselves to get excited for the show’s release and prepare for Netflix to ramp up its promotional efforts to build hype for the series.
Assassin’s Creed will be a high-octane thriller that will center on the secret war between two shadowy factions. One faction is set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights for free will. Netflix has teased that the series will follow its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.
With more than 230 million units sold, the Assassin’s Creed franchise is one of the best-selling video game series of all time, so there is no denying that the Netflix series has potential to become a massive hit. Of course, the franchise’s success in the video game industry doesn’t guarantee instant success for Netflix.
Netflix is undoubtedly hoping the show will be better received than the 2016 film starring Michael Fassbender, which grossed $240 million worldwide off a $125 million budget. While the film had moderate success at the box office, reviews were not good, with the film sitting at an 18% critics' score and a 42% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hopefully, the Netflix series will fare better among audiences and give video game fans a series they can be proud to support. Given how much time and effort Netflix has put into developing the series, we’re definitely optimistic!
