The cast and crew of Stranger Things has officially finished filming the fifth and final season. We've know this day was coming ever since images from a wrap party surfaced the other week, but Netflix made it official today with an announcement on Twitter/X, together with lots of images from behind the scenes of the smash hit sci-fi show:

We've got creators Matt and Ross Duffer behind the camera, as well as cast members like Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Noah Schnapp (Will), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Winona Ryder (Joyce), Joe Keery (Steve), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan) and Maya Buckley (Robin) palling around between takes.

When last we saw these folk, they were watching as the dark Upside Down dimension punched its way through a wall of reality and leak into the sleepy town of Hawkins, IN. Four seasons of build-up have led to this, and there are fans around the world eager to see how the story wraps up.

While we wait, we have more behind-the-scenes pictures of people like Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Priah Ferguson (Erica), Cara Buono (Karen), David Harbour (Hopper), and Brett Gelman (Murray). Notably, there are no shots of Millie Bobbie Brown as Eleven, in many ways the central character of the saga, but maybe they're holding those back for the sake of spoilers.

Looking at these images, I realize how successful Stranger Things has been at building up an ensemble cast over the years. Back when the series premiered on Netflix in 2016, the Duffer brothers talked about how they wanted the show to do with its cast what the Harry Potter movies did back in the 2000s, which was to give audiences an idea of the passage of time as they watched the actors grow up onscreen. I think they've pulled it off. It's going to mean something when the final season of Stranger Things drops and we watch actors who we were first introduced to as little kids nearly a decade ago finish the story as young adults. The Duffers have made their show their way, and I hope the ending is as spectacular an event as they've envisioned.

As for when we'll be seeing new episodes, all we know is that season 5 will drop sometime next year. In the meantime, Netflix has uploaded some new artwork to the show's homepage on Netflix and to its own media gallery:

See you in 2025.
