The new trailer for Dune: Part Three is finally here, and it's the most epic look so far at the final film of Denis Villeneuve's Dune trilogy, which arrives in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
This is the longest and most action-packed Dune: Part Three trailer that we've seen so far.
In the nearly three-minute trailer, we get extended looks at Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Chani (Zendaya), Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa), also known as Hayt in the new film, Irulan (Florence Pugh), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Stilgar (Javier Bardem), and the new "villain" of the story, Scytale (Robert Pattinson).
Most notably, though, we see several minutes of epic action sequences, along with Paul clearly struggling with the choices of his past.
There's so much going on in this trailer. I'm going to try to keep it simple in breaking it all down. First of all, we're covering a huge amount of time. The third film will pick up 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two, which saw Paul spurn Chani, marry Irulan, and become the new emperor. We see a little bit of the fallout of that in the trailer, but I'm sure it will remain a key plot point at the beginning of the film.
From there, Paul goes on to conquer the galaxy, as Duncan Idaho says in the trailer, but he comes to Paul at a turbulent time with a peace offering. I don't want to get too deep in the weeds explaining everything, but not everything is as it seems there.
We're also introduced to Scytale, who plans to kill the Emperor and bring "regime change," as he claims in the trailer. Irulan claims that his admission has signed their death warrants by conspiring to commit this treason.
We also see Anya Taylor-Joy's character, Alia Atreides, Paul's younger sister, screaming and covered in blood.
Outside of all the battles and action sequences, those are the big takeaways from the story that fans need to be aware of heading into the movie. Paul has become what he said that he wouldn't, and now, he's paying the price.

Why Dune: Part Three already looks like the trilogy's strongest chapter
I'm a huge fan of the first two Dune movies; they are two of the best sci-fi blockbusters of all time. And I still think the third movie is going to be the best of the bunch, especially after that last trailer.
The first movie introduced this unstoppable force in House Harkonnen to this immovable object in Paul Atreides and the Fremen. Then, we watched Paul basically grapple with the weight of responsibility in his pursuit of power. Now, we're about to find out what the real weight of power has done to Paul over the years. He's about to be tested in a way that he hasn't been tested before.
On top of that, it looks like Villeneuve has pulled off another stunning achievement in cinema, based on the trailer. Visually, it's stunning. The action sequences look even better than anything we've seen in the film series so far.
It reminds me a lot of The Return of the King compared to the first two Lord of the Rings movies. Everything is coming to a head in this final chapter, and it appears these characters are properly positioned to pull off an incredible and possibly tragic ending to this story.
I know there's a chance I'm getting my hopes too high based on a trailer. That's happened before, of course, but this isn't just one trailer. Everything we've seen from Dune: Part Three so far is excellent. The cast is bigger and better. There are so many incredible performers involved with this project. There are many, many reasons to believe this movie will be the best of the franchise so far.
I don't know exactly what's going to happen in this story, but the foundation has been laid to finish this story in a way that's satisfying for fans of Frank Herbert's book series and newer fans who have just tuned in for the first two movies. There are only a few movie series in history that have potential to be this big and this good. Dune is definitely on that short list.
Honestly, I will be shocked if we're not looking at a Return of the King situation. In 10 years, we'll be looking back at Dune: Part Three as the easy pick as the best movie of the bunch.
Dune: Part Three arrives in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming film.
