The cast and crew are hard at work on the first season of the new Harry Potter TV series, and the latest update isn't a one Harry Potter fans will be celebrating.

Arabella Stanton, who will star in the series as Hermione Granger, gave a recent update on the Harry Potter series at an event for Audible's Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions, which are now available.

Stanton was asked about filming Harry Potter and what the experience has been like, according to APNews.

"I can’t say much, because they’ve cast a Mimblewimble tongue-tying spell on me, but I’ve just started filming, and it’s great at the moment."

It's great news that Stanton is having a great time filming the new series. She was as good of a pick for Hermione as Harry Potter fans could have wished for.

That event was only a few weeks ago on Oct. 23. Unfortunately, that means that there's still a lot of work left on the first season of Harry Potter. In terms of the story, they've barely even gotten to Hogwarts.

As many will recall, we don't meet Hermione until Harry Potter (Dominic McLaughlin) boards the Hogwarts Express. He's in the compartment with Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) chopping it up when Hermione enters the compartment, asking if they have seen Neville's toad.

Harry Potter is reportedly coming to HBO in early 2027

Production on the Harry Potter series officially started this summer on July 14, 2025. We know they were doing location scouting and work on the series before that. The point is: they are almost four months into production, and they've just started filming at Hogwarts. That's a big deal!

We know they're filming the first season of the Harry Potter series in chronological order, for the most part, which means there's a lot more filming to go. It's hard to say how they are going to split the eight episodes of Harry Potter season 1, but it's going to be quite interesting to see how early in the series we actually to see Harry, Ron, and Hermione become friends.

For me, the story really gets good when Harry actually gets to Hogwarts, so I'm guessing that most of the first season will take place there, which means have roughly five or six episodes left to film before the series enters post-production.

Production listings indicate Harry Potter season 1 will likely be filming until the spring or summer of 2026. It will be interesting to see if they can stick to that schedule with the holidays coming up. This year is almost over, of course.

If they can stick to the schedule, HBO appears to be lining up an early 2027 release for Harry Potter season 1. The pace of production will likely need to speed up to hit that mark, though. I'm not saying they're behind or anything like that; I'm just doing a little bit of math.

There's a lot of pressure riding on this series, so getting it right is the most important thing after all. We know Warner Bros. and HBO have heavily invested in this series, and they're going to be patient in rolling this series out when it's ready. I know that's not what Harry Potter fans want to hear, but good things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue. Waiting is the hardest part. You know how the sayings go.

We'll share more updates about Harry Potter as we find out! We should be learning more in the new year. Stay tuned!
