HBO's IT: Welcome to Derry trailer is absolutely spine-chilling
Now tell me that sneak peek wasn't enough to make you peek through your fingers at the screen! Sure, the trailer starts off like a typical drama, but it quickly twists into full-blown horror, pulling you into the dark, mysterious world of Derry. From Pennywise’s creepy smile to the eerie vibes of Derry’s streets, the trailer serves up pure, unadulterated chills. Yet, we're still ready to watch every single second of the show as soon as it releases this October!
IT: Welcome to Derry comes from Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. It's adapted from Stephen King’s iconic novel It, serving as a prequel to the 2017 and 2019 film adaptations, which were both major box office successes. The story unfolds decades prior to the events of It and It Chapter Two. Set in the 1960s, the series transports us to the enigmatic town of Derry, where hidden dangers lurk beneath its calm streets and the menacing presence of Pennywise the Clown casts a shadow over the unsuspecting residents.
While the prequel will start with the arrival of an African-American family in Derry, it quickly becomes clear that Derry is far from the quiet town it appears to be. As mysterious disappearances and strange occurrences begin to unfold, the series dives into the dark history of the town, which includes the terrifying origins of Pennywise.
Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, and Chris Chalk make up the Hanlon family, who move to Derry seeking a fresh start, only to find themselves caught in the town’s dark and unsettling mysteries. Also in the cast are James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård. Skarsgård starred as Pennywise in It and It Chapter Two. He reprises this iconic role in the prequel series.
The first season of IT: Welcome to Derry will consist of nine episodes. The first episode will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025. Following the premiere, a new episode is then expected to air and be available to stream every Sunday until the season finale. A IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 is also rumored to be in the works, so that's good to know as well.
