New Lord of the Rings trilogy boxset comes complete with your own One Ring
By Dan Selcke
The Lord of the Rings has never stopped being popular, not since the books by J.R.R. Tolkien first came out in the 1950s, but the franchise is going through a prolific period right this moment the likes of which we've rarely seen. Amazon is airing its prequel series The Rings of Power, Warner Bros. Discovery is releasing the animated film The War of the Rohirrim this December, and there are a couple new versions of Peter Jackson's original Lord of the Rings movie trilogy going up for sale, both of which come with your own version of the One Ring.
It's not the One Ring, obviously, the one into which Sauron poured all of his malice and his will to dominate all life. That one's not real; it's silly to think it would be bundled with a 4K Ultra home video release of a movie trilogy...but still, best not put it on if you're in a megalomaniacal mood.
According to IGN, the One Ring has a shiny gold finish and is embossed with the iconic Elvish phrase on the side: “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.” It also comes with a pouch and a silver chain, so you can wear it around your neck rather than slip is on your finger, which will draw the attention of the Nazgûl and ruin whatever birthday party or work function you're attending at that moment.
I said there were a couple new versions of this boxset coming out. The less expensive costs $66.99 and comes with both the theatrical and extended versions of the movies, packaged in a box that's meant to mimic the look of the books. The more expensive version costs an oddly specific $157.32; it comes with all that stuff, plus tons of behind-the-scenes material plus a faux-leather finish on the packaging, "with gold foil and embossing for the text and art." Both versions come with the One Ring.
You can order both versions now, although the more expensive one doesn't officially release until December 20. Either way, they'll get here in time for the holidays, if you have someone in your life who somehow hasn't been exposed to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. And if you just want to get yourself the One Ring as a Christmas present, there's no shame in that.
