New pic from Outlander season 7 finale reveals fate of key character

Beware SPOILERS for Outlander below!

Outlander season 7
Outlander season 7

The latest episode of Outlander ended in unbearably dramatic fashion as Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) was shot with a musket ball while attending to the wounded on a Revolutionary War battlefield. Last we checked in on her, Denzell Hunter (Joey Phillips) was going to perform surgery on Claire to remove the bullet; she's taught him modern medical techniques, so she stands a chance. Still, the situation is intense, especially when Claire has to talk Denzell through the procedure while he is performing it on her. Meanwhile, Claire's husband Jamie (Sam Heughan) stands nearby with his heart in his throat.

How will this situation resolve in the season 7 finale, "A Hundred Thousand Angels"? We now have an answer. TV Line was gifted an image from the finale episode ahead of time. It shows Claire in a sickbed, down for the count but looking very much alive:

On the one hand, I'm a little surprised that Starz would allow Claire's fate to be spoiled several days before the finale drops on Friday. On the other hand, did anyone really think that the show was going to kill off Claire? She and Jamie have been the main characters since the beginning and there's still another season to go. It reminds me of what happened earlier this season when the show tried to fool us into thinking Jamie had died at sea. We all knew he was fine, and he was.

But even with this mystery solved, there are still lots of plotlines the Outlander season finale will have to untangle. There's the ongoing drama with Lord John Grey, for instance, or the drama with Jamie's biological son William. It will all go down this Friday.

After that, Outlander will take a break before coming back for its eighth and final season, which the stars assure us will blow our minds:
