Fans of the nostalgia-packed, grungy Peacock original show, Twisted Metal can rejoice: season 3 has been announced! And new driver will be added to the mix: according to Deadline, David Reed will be replacing co-creator Michael Jonathon Smith as showrunner.
If the name David Reed rings a bell, it's because he's written for hit shows like The Boys, The Magicians, Aquarius and Supernatural, and will now be adding Twisted Metal to that illustrious list. How will he do with shifting gears into this high octane series? Once that green flag waves, we'll certainly find out!

Season 2 was full of ups and downs for our beloved John Doe (played by Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz): beloved new characters joining the mix and being ripped away, stronger bonds built while others were broken, and so many fiery car battle scenes. Calypso (Anthony Carrigan) started out as just a mysterious figure with the key to a better life for the Outsiders, but as the season went on, we discovered just what nefarious deeds he was truly capable of.
The season laid the foundation for an epic battle between the Insiders and Outsiders ahead. While getting inside the cities has long been a goal for those struggling to survive on the outside, the Insiders have never had an active interest in hunting down anyone beyond their borders before now. War has been declared, with large targets slapped on the backs of John, Quiet, and their remaining crew of loveable misfits.

How will a new showrunner affect Twisted Metal?
The big question now, is what will Reed do with the steering wheel he's been given? Can we expect the return of characters we thought were dead? Will new players from their pasts resurface? We still don't know much about Mayhem (played by Saylor Bell Curda), despite the discovery that she was most likely rescued as a baby by the now-deceased Axel (Michael James Shaw), so there's a lot of potential material to cover with her backstory.
I'm personally hoping for some more information about Stu's incredible return to Earth after his wish was granted by Calypso! And while Calypso has clearly been established as some sort of supernatural creature, there are several directions the show could take. Fantasy fans are aware of the dangers that come with making a deal with fae, which is what Calypso's wish-granting is very reminiscent of. Is he a faerie of some sort? Or some kind of chaos-embracing, demonic entity?
It's up to David Reed to fill in the blanks for us now, so all we can do is buckle up and prepare for the ride ahead!
