The third season of The Mandalorian, the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show, wrapped back in 2023. At one point, we were getting a fourth season, but in the midst of the writers and actors strikes, creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni decided to pivot. We're now getting The Mandalorian & Grogu, a major motion picture set to hit theaters next year.
Filoni and Favreau were on hand to introduce the first footage from The Mandalorian & Grogu at Star Wars Celebration in Japan. The footage hasn't been officially released yet, but The Hollywood Reporter has an eye-witness account, not to mention some plum images:

We get a fair amount of action in the trailer. Din Djarin, aka the Mandaorian, cuts open the hull of an AT-AT and fights his way through a bunch of stormtroopers outfitted for snowy environs. At one point, we see Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba the Hutt, presiding over some kind of fighting arena. Rotta the Hutt is played by The Bear's Jeremy Allen White, and I will not deny that I'm very curious to see that footage.
We also see a new character played by screen legend Sigourney Weaver, who tells Mando that he's working for her. And of course, Grogu — better known as Baby Yoda — is present. He uses his Force powers, he swims underwater, he eats space popcorn...and I assume he looks adorable doing it all.
Pascal and Weaver were also on hand for the presentation, as was a cute lil' animatronic version of Grogu:

The Mandalorian & Grogu will come out in theaters on May 22, 2026. And that wasn't the only Star Wars news announced at the celebration...
Star Wars: Starfighter will come out in 2027
It's been known for a while that Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was working on a Star Wars movie that will star Ryan Gosling in the main role. Levy came on stage to reveal a few details: the movie will come out on Memorial Day 2027, it's set a few years after 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, it's a standalone adventure, and it's called Star Wars: Starfighter.

I'm not crazy about the word "star" appearing twice in this three-word movie title, but maybe I'll warm to it. In any case, after a hiatus from the big screen, Star Wars movies are coming back!
In the more immediate future, the best Star Wars TV show, Andor, will start airing its second and final season this upcoming Tuesday, April 22.
