The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians started airing on Disney+ in December of 2023. The upcoming second season is due to premiere at the end of this year, meaning fans will have waited about two years to see the continuing adventures of Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabelle (Leah Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) as they pal around with Greek gods at Camp Half-Blood.
That's a long time, but it looks like Disney is making moves to cut down on future waits. According to Nexus Point News, casting is already underway for the third season, which is scheduled to start filming in July, so the cameras will start rolling months before the debut of season 3. That's a welcome change after season 2 didn't start production until six months after the season 1 finale aired. It may also be necessary, since Percy Jackson revolves around a trio of kids and there's only so much time before they grow up.
What happens after that? Rick Riordan, who writes the Percy Jackson books, is hoping that Disney gets to adapt the whole of his original pentalogy. "I'm guardedly optimistic about future seasons, he said during a Q&A on GoodReads. "No one knows the answer right now. It will depend on continued viewership, but we're certainly off to a great start! All I can say for certain is that everyone involved is hoping and assuming that we will have the full five-season arc, but we'll just have to wait and see. As for how fast they will come out, the hope is certainly that we can pick up the pace of release dates, but a season still takes a long time to create, so I'm not sure exactly what that will look like."
Riordan went on to write even more books set in the Percy Jackson universe, some of which follow up with Percy, Annabeth and Grover when they're older, but let's focus on getting the first five original books adapted first.

Jay Duplass will not return as Hades in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2
As for season 2, that's due to start airing on Disney+ this December. According to Adam Copeland (aka the pro wrestler Edge), who plays god of war Ares, there was a lot more confidence behind the scenes this time. "I think by the time we filmed Season 2, everyone knew exactly what we were dealing with now," he told TV Insider. "In the first season, you think this will be a big show, but you don’t know. When it did what it did right out of the gate, I think it was not necessarily surprising, but we saw it was a hit. I think everyone had that in mind going into the second season, which I think puts a little pressure on everyone. Pressure is a good thing."
So we know Ares will be back for season 2, which adapts the book The Sea of Monsters. But not every god who appeared in season 1 will return. Speaking to PEOPLE last month, Jay Duplass revealed that he won't be back as Hades, god of the underworld, at least for now. "I am not in Season 2. But, there have been some potential droppings about Season 3."
With Disney getting an early move on season 3, maybe he knows by now.
