The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, about a young boy's self-discovery after finding out he's the son of a Greek god, wrapped up in early 2024. Now, Disney executive Ayo Davis has finally revealed that we'll be watching new episodes in December.
The second season will adapt The Sea of Monsters, the second book in author Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson's series. What's more, Deadline reports that Disney has renewed the show for a third season! Season 3 will be based on the third book in the series, The Titan’s Curse. This officially means that the TV show will get to adapt more of the books than the Percy Jackson movies did when they were coming out in the early 2010s; the movies got as far as The Sea of Monsters before getting cut of.
“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+," Riordan said in a statement. "This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time. It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”
The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was a hit on Disney+, so it's not a huge surprise that it's been given an early renewal. That said, it's especially important to get the ball rolling on a series like this, when so many of the cast members are young. The main trio of the series is Percy (Walker Scobell) and his friends Annabeth (Leah Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri); they all attend a demigod training facility called Camp Half-Blood; think of it like Hogwarts from Harry Potter but everything is Greek myth-themed. If the show wants to adapt the whole series, they'll have to get the cameras rolling before these kids grow up too much.
Percy and company will have their hands full in season 2. Camp Half-Blood is under siege by the titan Kronos, Grover is missing, Percy finds out he has a cyclops brother, and he and Annabeth get closer.
In season 2, the part of Zeus will be played by Courtney B. Vance, replacing the late Lance Reddick. It's onward and upwards for Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
