A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has quickly become the latest fan-favorite installment in the Game of Thrones television franchise, so much so that it's already fallen victim to a casting hoax. You know a show is popular when the internet runs rampant with false rumors of a mega-star joining the cast. But in this case, the rumors about Henry Cavill heading to Westeros aren't true.
As much as some fans had been keeping their fingers crossed that there would be some truth to the chatter that Cavill would be making his debut in another fantasy television franchise, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Peter Claffey has further clarified how these wires got crossed. Apparently, it all comes down to case of miscommunication on the part of Dexter Sol Ansell.
During an appearance at New York Comic-Con, Claffey compared his character Dunk to Cavill's The Witcher character, calling him "a less sexy, less confident, less charismatic Geralt of Rivia." In response, Sol Ansell asked, "Do you think you can say that Henry Cavill...?" However, Claffey shut his question down, which led to fans wondering if the Egg actor had spoiled a season 2 casting.
Henry Cavill isn't going to be in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2
Back in February 2026, Claffey shared a post on his Instagram Stories debunking the rumors that Henry Cavill had been cast in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2. "Just to clarify, the thing Dex was referring to in the interview had nothing to do with Henry Cavill coming into the show or the GOT universe (I wish!). Complete misunderstanding." But the debunking isn't over yet.
About one month later, Claffey and Sol Ansell appeared together at Dublin Comic-Con, and their interview moderator allowed the actors to once again and once and for all clear the air about the Henry Cavill rumors. Sol Ansell allowed Claffey to take the lead in answering this line of questioning, likely to keep himself from starting any other potential rumors (just kidding, of course).

Claffey explained that during the auditioning process for Dunk, he was up against another actor for the role who the actor thought was more charismatic. He joked that he was happy that this other actor was off doing something else and that he landed the role of Dunk. Sol Ansell managed to get the unnamed actor mixed up with Henry Cavill, assuming that's who Claffey was talking about.
"Dexter mixed up those two people, and he thought that it was Henry Cavill that I had 'beaten' to play Dunk, which would never happen anyway. So, that's what he was saying in New York, and everybody then just assumed that Henry Cavill's going to be in season 2," Claffey said.
Following his explanation, Sol Ansell quickly chimed in with a joke, which earned laughter from the audience: "So, anyway, Henry Cavill is... NOT in the second season!"
Clearly, the accidental mix up on Sol Ansell's part was music to the ears of many Game of Thrones fans, who had Cavill pegged as a popular fan casting for Daemon Blackfyre for many years. The rumor that the former Superman actor might actually make his way to Westeros at long last leaned into that fan casting, but as Claffey clarified, that's not in the cards for season 2.
But after clearing up the misunderstanding at Dublin Comic-Con, Claffey shared a fan casting of his own and expressed his hopes that Henry Cavill could step into the role of Aegon the Conqueror for the film adaptation that's in the works. He doubled down that he has no insider information but that he would "pay a lot of money to see that." He's obviously not alone!
