A remake of the 1984 cult classic superhero flick The Toxic Avenger has been finished for a while, but only recently did someone pick it up to release in theaters. The reviews so far have been great, so it's anybody's guess why it took this long.

In any case, all is well now. In a new trailer, we see janitor Winston Gooze (Game of Thrones veteran Peter Dinklage) try to get his slimy boss (Kevin Bacon) to actually follow through on his obligations and actually treat the disease Winston picked up working at a chemical company. One thing leads to another, there's an accident involving toxic waste, and Winston becomes a deranged superhero who fights crime and rips off arms. Watch below:

Director Macon Blair seems to be channeling the gonzo spirit of the original Toxic Avenger movie. Will modern audiences connect with a movie that's so willfully chaotic? We'll find out when it comes out in theaters on August 29.

The Toxic Avenger remake also stars Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, and Elijah Wood, who plays a very deranged-looking villain character. Between Dinklage, Bacon and Wood, there's some real star power in this movie, which makes it doubly confusing why it took so long to find a distributor. Studios have been struggling to get people into theaters lately, so why not try some new ideas?

Since his run on Game of Thrones ended, Peter Dinklage has split his time between major franchise projects (Thor: Love and Thunder, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) and smaller films like Cyrano, The Thicket, and now The Toxic Avenger. He also appeared last year in Wicked, one of the biggest movies of the year, and will return later this year in Wicked: For Good.
