Filming on the third season of House of the Dragon continues. The cast and crew are doing a lot out in the open on location lately, which means lots of opportunities for curious shutterbugs to snap pictures. We've seen a lot of activity lately, including on a major action scene called the Battle of the Gullet that will take place very early in the season.

But of course, there will be more than one set piece in season 3. They're doing a lot of filming for the Battle of the Gullet on location in Wales. Meaning, in Surrey, England, the crew is setting up a military encampment led by new character Ormund Hightower (James Norton). Take a look at some pictures courtesy of @HouseTheDragons:

How do we know these are pictures of Ormund Hightower's camp? Because if you zoom in on the props, there are signs that say "Ormund Hightower camp." I rest my case.

Ormund Hightower is the son of Hobert Hightower, the former head of House Hightower. By the time the Dance of the Dragons civil war kicks off, Hobert is dead, which makes Ormund the head of House Hightower. And House Hightower is one of the richest and most powerful houses in the Seven Kingdoms, which makes Ormund a very big deal.

Explaining familiy relations in these shows is always an experience, so pay attention: Ormund is the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), which makes him cousin to Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox). While Alicent is in King's Landing and Gwayne marching on Harrenhal, Ormund Hightower is back in the Reach, near House Hightower's seat in Oldtown. Ormund, obviously, is loyal to his cousin King Aegon II Targaryen, but other factions in the Reach have sworn themselves to Aegon's rival Queen Rhaenyra. At this part in the story, Ormund is fighting those rebel factions.

Ormund will likely be joined by Daeron Targaryen, one of Alicent Hightower's sons. We saw Daeron's dragon Tessarion fly over the Hightower army at the very end of season 2, so it's only a matter of time before he shows up in the flesh; we don't know who's playing him yet.

This opens a new front for the show, since we haven't spent any time in the Reach as of yet. The TV series veered from George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood when it revealed that Otto Hightower, who left King's Landing for the Reach partway through season 2, was being held prisoner somewhere; in the book, he remains in King's Landing during this part of the story. My bet is that he'll interact with Ormund and Daeron when the time comes.

As for the pictures themselves, we see some vases and some bowls and some military equipment. I'm also interested in the building. It looks like a farmhouse or small keep to me, not a temporary structure an army would build while they're on the march. Maybe it's a structure that Ormund's army comes across.

We'll keep an eye out as filming continues. Expect new episodes of House of the Dragon to start airing on HBO and HBO Max sometime in 2026.
