4 more Star Wars and Marvel shows get 4K and Blu-ray releases
By Dom Riley
Four Star Wars and Marvel Disney+ shows are getting new physical media releases on April 30 of this year, according to Variety.
On the Star Wars side of things, fans are getting the dark and gritty Andor: The Complete First Season, as well as Obi Wan Kenobi: The Complete Series, which features Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprising their roles from the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
There are also two releases from Marvel: Moon Knight: The Complete First Season, starring Oscar Isaac as the title character; and also Falcon and the Winter Soldier: The Complete First Season, which follows the two characters in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, as Sam Wilson accepts the title of Captain America.
All four titles will be released on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, with new steelbook packaging and concept art cards included.
Alongside the episodes, the discs include special features and documentaries to take you behind the scenes and explore what went into bringing these shows to the screen. Andor gets new featurettes, while Obi-Wan Kenobi also has featurettes as well as a commentary from series' director Deborah Chow. From Marvel Studios, Moon Knight has featurettes and a making-of documentary, with deleted scenes and a gag reel. Rounding things out, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has a making-of doc, a gag reel and deleted scenes.
The announcement comes after three other Disney+ shows were released on Blu-ray late last year: Marvel's Loki season 1 and Wandavision, along with the first two seasons of the hit Star Wars show The Mandalorian, meaning there's hope that even more of the streamer's content could find its way onto a physical release.
This will be welcome news for fans of the popular shows who've been wanting physical releases for years now. It will also be something of a relief, given how easy it is for titles to be removed from streaming services and never seen again, as happened with the show Willow on Disney+. While Blu-Ray sales might not be as strong as they once were, there are still legions of fans who want something tangible to add to their collections, letting them preserve their favorite shows even if they're not available to stream.
There's been no announcement of the price tag yet, but all four shows will be available for preorder on Amazon on March 12, ahead of their release on April 30.
