5 Fire & Blood moments we're dreading to see in House of the Dragon seasons 2 and 3

There are some gut-wrenching moments in the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, and we know some of them are coming in House of the Dragon season 2.

House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. Not everything from the book is going to make it into season 2. However, we know of a few major events coming up, and we’re not looking forward to them!

At the end of the first season, war was imminent between Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon. In season 2, the war will begin in earnest, and war is bloody and heartbreaking. People die, and others do things they likely wouldn’t consider doing at any other point in their lives.

Are you ready to delve into the Fire & Blood moments that we’re dreading to see in House of the Dragon season 2?

The Blood and Cheese scene with Helaena and her family

If there’s one death that we’re getting ready to deal with, it’s the death of Jaehaerys Targaryen, the son of King Aegon and his sister-wife Helaena. This is a huge moment in the book, and we’re sure to see it in House of the Dragon season 2. After all, there have been leaked photos of a funeral procession with Helaena and her mother Alicent.

It all comes down to Blood and Cheese, two men tasked with killing one of Helaena’s sons, revenge for the death of Rhaenyra's son Lucerys in the season 1 finael. They give Helaena the choice of who should die. They won’t kill her, although they do threaten to rape her six-year-old daughter if she doesn’t make a choice.

She chooses her two-year-old son, Maelor. Blood behead the six-year-old Jaehaerys in front of Helaena instead. They run off with his head, leaving a heartbroken Helaena in the Red Keep.

Rhaenys’ fight to the death

We know that the Battle of Rook’s Rest happens in House of the Dragon season 2. It’s such a huge moment in the Dance of the Dragons, and it changes everything for Team Black.

Rhaenys and her dragon, Meleys, head to Rook’s Rest to help out an ally, but really it's a trap set by Criston Cole. While there, Rhaenys ends up in a fight against both Aegon and Aemond on their dragons Sunfyre and Vhagar. She knows there’s little chance that she will win, but she and Meleys put up a fight. Unfortunately, Rhaenys’s body is burned beyond recognition and Meleys is torn to pieces.

These are two of the deaths that we’re expecting this season. However, it’s the aftermath I’m dreading to see. Meleys’ head is dragged through the streets of King’s Landing. It stuns the smallfolk into silence.

Maelor Targaryen dying at the hands of the mob

Maelor Targaryen doesn’t escape death in Fire & Blood. He is shipped away from King's Landing, and is overtaken by a hungry mob along with the Kingsguard knight charged with protecting him.

Accounts of Maelor's death differ, but all agree that he dies. Does he suffer? The deaths of children and animals always get me.

This scene will likely be held for season 3, if it happens at all. It's possible that Maelor will be cut from the series entirely, which may be for the best. Can we really deal with multiple innocent children dying in one show, or even one season?

Mysaria being marched through the streets

The information broker Mysaria is involved in hiring Blood and Cheese at the behest of Rhaenyra's husband Daemon Targaryen. In Fire & Blood, she’s eventually captured and forced to walk through the streets of King’s Landing naked. The whole time, she is whipped by people. If she makes it to the gates, she’s allowed to leave. Let’s just say, she isn’t able to leave.

The description of this in the book is gruesome. It’ll be interesting to see if House of the Dragon lightens some of the moments up. This is another moment that likely won't happen until season 3, if at all.

The storming of the Dragonpit

Poor, sweet Dreamfyre. Helaena Targaryen's dragon is in the Dragonpit when the people storm it after Rhaenyra takes over King’s Landing, something we likely won't see until the very end of season 2 or, more likely, in season 3. We would love to see Dreamfyre manage to burn everyone to a crisp, but by that point, she’s been caged in the Dragonpit and not been ridden for months.

As the people storm the Dragonpit, it collapses. Dreamfyre is trapped under the rubble, and that’s how she dies. Remember the feeling when Viserion died at the hands of the Night King or when Rhaegal died thanks to Euron Greyjoy on Game of Thrones? Well, it’s about to feel a little like that, but worse since Dreamfyre has no way of escaping. Other dragons die as well.

She’s not the only dragon to die, either. Rhaenyra's young son Joffrey rides her dragon Syrax to the Dragonpit in an attempt to stop the mob. Syrax shrugs Joffrey off and he falls to his death, and Syrax is torn apart by the mob.
