Black Sails is our final pick for fans of The Last Kingdom. The Starz original series premiered in January 2014 and ran for four seasons on the cable network through 2017. It’s such a great show. It follows a group of pirates looking for treasure while the authorities try to stop them.
The series is fictional, but like The Last Kingdom, it’s inspired by true events and real people, mainly real-life historical pirates, many of whom show up on Black Sails.
In terms of story, the series doesn’t share a lot in common with The Last Kingdom, but the themes explored in each show, the performances, and just the overall vibes are quite similar. Fans of The Last Kingdom should definitely check out Black Sails on Starz and Amazon Prime Video. If you like pirates and heroes going rogue like Uhtred, Black Sails is a must-watch for you right now.
