The stakes are high with The Walking Dead's latest spin-off, The Ones Who Live. The highly anticipated continuation of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne's (Danai Gurira) story is upon us, and we cannot wait to see what unfolds.

The last time we saw Rick was in Season 9 of The Walking Dead when he was presumed dead after he blew up a bridge of zombies with him on it. Everyone believed him to be dead, but of course, the series finale revealed that he is very much alive.

Michonne had stumbled across some clues long before this reveal and departed on a journey to find the love of her life. And that is precisely where things will pick up from on The Walking Dead: The One Who Lives. There is much to look forward to, and while February 25th is still about ten days away, Entertainment Weekly is giving us a sneak peek into the show's set.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live: A story and history like no other!

While visiting the set, EW spoke to the stars of the series including Lincoln who had very exciting things to say about the series. “I’ve been doing a lot of crying,” said Lincoln of the first few episodes. “But now we get to blow things up and do car chases and stuff. It’s awesome!”

What exactly is awesome? An intense car chase scene with Lincoln, Gurira, and Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). Um, this sounds amazing! It really does sound “like wrestling a very angry bear,” as Lincoln so bluntly put it.

I can imagine that this whole experience has been so mindblowing for Lincoln who left the series back in 2018 thinking he would be coming back to do movies. These movies were supposed to follow what happened with Rick after he was taken by the CRM.

However, fate had something else in store! While the plan was for there to be movies that would only premiere in theatres, COVID-19 struck and sort of took things off track. We had no idea what was going on with the whole Rick movie thing for a long time. Then, Gurira left The Walking Dead, which made things interesting because she left to go find Rick. It was exciting but confusing because we weren't sure what that would look like. Fast forward to now, and we are now days away from the series premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

TWD Chief Content Officer and co-creator of this spin-off, Scott M. Gimple, shared that he started to plant the seeds for this spin-off as far back as Season 6. He knew Andrew Lincoln would one day want to leave the show, and with that thought in mind, Gimple began plotting his plan. “Knowing Andy, and knowing that he wasn't going to be on the show forever, I started laying down some of the aspirational foundation maybe as far back as season 6,” Gimple said. “I started working on a big mythology. People were like, ‘Helicopters? What are you talking about?’”

Of course, when Lincoln did inevitably leave, Gimple was all set to go, and had the foundation set for what would come. And that is why AMC pays this guy the big bucks. He planned for this for years, and it is about to pay off!
