A major figure from Westerosi history will reportedly appear in the House of the Dragon finale
By Dan Selcke
The season 2 finale of House of the Dragon airs on HBO and Max this Sunday, August 4. The super-sleuthes over at Redanian Intelligence have some very interesting news about a certain character who will make an appearance, but to speak their name would be to reveal SPOILERS, so best stop here if you want any of that.
For those still interested, kindly scroll past this image of actor, filmmaker and dancer Joshua Ben-Tovim:
I include Tovim's pic because he will, according to RI, play none other than Brynden Rivers aka Bloodraven, the bastard son of King Aegon IV Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Unworthy on account of how crappy a king he was; he legitimized all of his bastards on his deathbed, leading to a series of wars known as the Blackfyre Rebellions. Bloodraven was a key player in these conflicts in his role as Hand of the King and Master of Whisperers to King Aerys I Targaryen.
Bloodraven is born years after the events of House of the Dragon, so how could he show up in an episode? Well, it's heavily implied that, later in life, Bloodraven goes beyond the Wall and becomes the figure Bran Stark will come to know as the Three-Eyed Crow, changed to the Three-Eyed Raven on Game of Thrones, where the character was played first by Struan Rodger and then by Max von Sydow. The show never quite makes the connection explicit, but author George R.R. Martin makes it pretty clear in his Song of Ice and Fire books.
My guess is that Bloodraven will make a cameo appearance vis a vis some kind of vision or dream; we know Daemon Targaryen can't stop having those things during his stay at the crumbling castle of Harrenhal. Incidentally, Bloodraven plays a more active role in Martin's Dunk & Egg novellas, which HBO is adapting as a new TV show called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. It's unknown whether Joshua Ben-Tovim will reprise his role as Bloodraven on that show or if they'll get someone else. They probably won't have to cross that bridge for awhile, since Bloodraven doesn't appear in the first Dunk & Egg novella, which will form the basis for that show's first season, which should premiere sometime next year.
