All 12 Star Wars movies in canon order
Over the past 40+ years, Lucasfilm has made 12 feature films set in the Star Wars universe. They made three in the 1770s and '80s, three in the '90s and 2000s, and then six in the 2010s alone. That's because Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012 and put them to work.
Here are all 12 Star Wars movies put in internal chronological order, meaning the order in which they appear on the Star Wars timeline, not the order in which they were released into our world:
- Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace (1999)
- Star Wars: Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones (2002)
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)
- Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith (2005)
- Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
- Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope (1977)
- Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
- Star Wars: Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi (1983)
- Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens (2015)
- Star Wars: Episode 8 - The Last Jedi (2017)
- Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
The least known movie on this list is The Clone Wars, an animated feature that filled in the gaps between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. It did get a theatrical release, though, so it makes the list.
The first four movies on this list all take place during the "prequel trilogy," and are the furthest back Lucasfilm has gone i the timeline. Next is the original trilogy, which takes place after the Empire has come to power. Finally there's the sequel trilogy, which takes place afte the Empire has fallen.
Lucasfilm has also made a lot of Star Wars TV shows. One airing this year, The Acolyte, will be set even before the prequel trilogy. And there's a new live-action movie in development about Rey Skywalker which will take place after the end of the prequel trilogy.
