After almost three years, we're finally coming up on the release date for the second and final season of Arcane, Netflix's Emmy Award-winning animated series based on the popular League of Legends video game. And you know it's getting close because the streamer has just released a shiny new trailer. Season 1 of Arcane ended with Jinx firing a rocket into a meeting of Piltover's leadership, while her sister Vi helplessly watched on in horror. We didn't see what happened next, but you can bet it wasn't good.

It was all but assured that Jinx's actions were going to shake up the dynamic between the aristocratic upper city and the slums of Zaun in a big way, and from this new trailer, it looks like that promise is coming true in spades. Watch:

There's a lot of exciting stuff in this trailer. We knew Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Stenfield) were going to be at odds this season, but it looks like things are going to get very dark for them both. Jinx is becoming a figurehead for a revolution in the under city. Vi joins the law enforcement team of Piltover in earnest...but seems like she's going to get a black-haired makeover at some point in the season and new threads as well. There's drama, there's action, there's sibling rivalry on a grand scale and explosive societal upheaval...Arcane is so back.

"From Riot Games, ARCANE returns this November on Netflix," reads the press release for the trailer. "The animated series, based on the League of Legends game and one of Netflix’s most successful animated series ever, is created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee. Executive producers include Linke, Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck. The Animation Studio is Fortiche Production. Voices include Hailee Steinfeld (Vi), Annie Award winner Ella Purnell (Jinx) and Katie Leung (Caitlyn), Reed Shannon (Ekko), Amirah Vann (Sevika), Mick Wingert (Heimerdinger), Ellen Thomas (Ambessa), and Brett Tucker (Singed) among others to be announced."

Netflix has also released a bunch of new images from the show. Here's Jinx, wearing a hoodie and looking for all the world like she's passing judgment:

Next, we've got Vi facing off against a shadowy terror:

That big werewolf is most likely Warwick, a classic League of Legends character who will be making their debut this season. Or will they? There have been hints that Warwick may have some mind-blowing connections to Vi and Jinx's past, but we won't know for sure until season 2 drops.

Next up, we've got a mysterious figure with a magical-looking orb floating over their hand, stars dotting the night sky around them. I have no idea who this person is, but the trailer does say that "the Arcane is waking up." A large part of the story in Arcane has been about the rise of magic in this realm, and since magic is prevalent everywhere in League of Legends, presumably season 2 will continue that thread until it's much more widespread.

It might not look like it at first, but the picture above is another one of Vi, now sporting black hair and plenty of cuts and bruises. What happens to her this season? Whatever lies ahead, I have a feeling it's going to be especially brutal for the sisters at the heart of this show.

Last up is a shot of Ambessa charging into battle. Ambessa is Mel's estranged mother from Noxus, who showed up partway through season 1 to stir the pot among the nobility of Piltover. She's got a more cynical, battle-hungry spirit than her daughter, which was kept in check by the delicate balance of power in season 1. It looks like she'll be free to pursue her aims in season 2, telling someone during the trailer that it's time to "declare martial law." What could go wrong?

Of course, we can't end this Arcane round-up without shouting out the music. Season 1 featured a slew of songs by the band Imagine Dragons. We don't know whether they'll be contributing at all to season 2, but the trailer also featured the first single from the soundtrack: "Paint The Town Blue" by Ashnikko.

Imagine Dragons or not, the soundtrack for this show doesn't miss. Arcane season 2 is due out this November on Netflix. Season 1 releases on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD on October 8.
