Netflix is currently working on the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the live-action remake of Nickelodeon's classic animated series. According to Knight Edge Media, production still has yet to begin. Currently, Netflix is still casting, and a recent casting call includes character names fan will recognize, including Long Feng and the Earth King. Both of those characters are part of a popular story set in the Earth Kingdom city of Ba Sing Se, which fans are surely looking forward to seeing brought to life in live-action.
Netflix is also looking to cast Lady Ursa, the mother of Prince Zuko and Princess Azula. That's a little more interesting, since Ursa appears only very briefly in the original Last Airbender series. It's possible the Netflix show will show her in a flashback to Zuko or Azula's childhoods, or maybe even incorporate her story from the comics.
Netflix is also looking to cast a few new characters, including folks named General Song, General Tran, and Bone Saw. The generals are probably Ba Sing Se bigwigs, while Knight Edge Media speculates that Bone Saw could be a warrior we meet when Aang and our other heroes visit an underground fight club in the Earth Kingdom, which is where they first encounter Toph, and important character who will be with them for the rest of the story.
A young blind earthbender with buckets of attitude, Toph is one of the most popular characters from the original Last Airbender show. Netflix put out a casting call for her in June; they need to get this right or the fans will never forgive them.
For a while, fans were pulling for actor Diana Tsoy to get the role after a concept video (watch it above) of her showing what she could do leaked online. Tsoy went out for the role, but revealed in a recent Instagram video that she didn't get it.
Tsoy went on to say that she was 100% certain that Netflix picked the right person for the part, and asked fans to support the production's choice.
Believe it or not, the firrt season of Avatar: The Last Airbender dropped just earlier this year, and given that season 2 isn't officially shooting yet, we probably won't see it until 2026.
