Beautiful concept art for the family dinner scene from House of the Dragon

Kieran Belshaw has been bringing Westeros to life with his concept art for years. Check out some of his lovely work on a key scene from House of the Dragon:

In the eighth episode of House of the Dragon, "The Lord of the Tides," the extended Targaryen family sits down for a dinner in the Red Keep. This is the last time the two rival sides of the family — one headed by Rhaenyra Targaryen and the other by her best frenemy Alicent Hightower — will meet under somewhat-pleasant circumstances before the realm erupts into war.

Even then, there's a lot of tension at the dinner. Jacaerys Velaryon gets into a fight with his uncle Aemond Targaryen, Rhaenyra's husband Daemon has to step in to break things up, King Viserys Targaryen — the only member of the family who really just wants everyone to get along — takes off his mask and reveals that his face has been ruined by a terminal wasting diseas, probably ruining everyone's appetites...it's a memorable scene, easily one of the best of the season.

Now, concept artist Kieran Belshaw — who worked on Game of Thrones before coming over to prequel series House of the Dragon — has shared some of the art behind this scene, and it looks like the show followed through on his vision pretty much exactly Take a look:

Well, it followed through on his vision except that Viserys looks a whole lot worse in the final episode than he did in the concept art. In any case, it was clear that this scene was going to be a memorable one right from the start; sometimes things just come together like that.

Hopefully we'll see more scenes of this caliber when the second season of House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and Max this June.
