Beef star Young Mazino joins cast of The Last of Us season 2 as Jesse
By Dan Selcke
Shooting for The Last of Us season 2 begins next month, and HBO is getting things rolling with a bunch of casting announcements. The other day we learned that Kaitlyn Dever will play Abby, a crucial character in the video game The Last of Us Part II. Now, Variety reports that Young Mazino, who recently earned accolades for his performance in the Netflix show Beef, will play the role of Jesse.
The Last of Us Part II is a crazy roller coaster of a game and I don't want to give away too much. I'll just say that Jesse is a friend of Ellie's who will accompany her on some of her adventures in season 2, which will pick up where season 1 left off: with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) returning to Jackson, Wyoming to try and settle down and carve out a nice life for themselves admist the zombie apocalypse. Obviously there are difficulties along the way, but you can see for themselves what they are when The Last of Us season 2 airs on HBO and Max sometime in 2025...or you could just watch what happened in the game, which came out in 2020. But if you spoil yourself, upon your own head let it be!
Abby and Jesse are two of the most important new characters joining the cast in season 2. There are others we haven't heard of yet. Ellie gets a girlfriend named Dina who may have appeared very briefly in season 1, but we can't be sure. Other key characters include a couple named Mel and Owen as well as a brother and sister named Lev and Yara. We haven't heard anything yet about who's playing them.
But with cameras about to start rolling, we'll probably find out more soon. Stay tuned.
