The characters on Game of Thrones like to knock back a few drinks. Some of them like it a lot. Remember Tyrion Lannister's famous quote: "I drink and I know thinks." It's not just a quip, it's a lifestyle that Tyrion fully commits to, at least if this infographic from @westerosies is any indication.
This graph reflects the number of glasses of wine we see each character drink onscreen. The results:
- Sansa Stark: eight glasses
- Jon Snow: 10 glasses
- Walder Frey: 10 glasses
- Theon Greyjoy: 11 glasses
- Robert Baratheon: 12 glasses
- Bronn: 13 glasses
- Tywin Lannister: 14 glasses
- The Hound: 16 glasses
- Cersei Lannister: 28 glasses
- Tyrion Lannister: 94 glasses
Tyrion, your drinking has affected me in the following ways: it's entertaining. Keep it up.
I kid, I kid, but seriously, Tyrion may have a problem. I was surprised the results were this lopsided. Considering that both Tyrion and his sister Cersei have a reputation for being (mostly) functional alcoholics, I expected a closer contest.
It may have a lot to do with screentime; we simply spend more time with Tyrion over the eight seasons of the show than we do with Cersei. I think we can assume that whenever the camera isn't on her, Cersei is downing a few bottles of sauv blanc, or merlot, or grapes she buried in the godswood in case she drank her way through the Red Keep storerooms. A good alcoholic needs a backup plan. Also, while Tyrion definitely drank more glasses of wine onscreen than Cersei, I feel like we may have seen her be drunk more than Tyrion?
I don't know if any of the characters on HBO's Game of Thrones prequel show House of the Dragon can go toe to toe with the Lannister siblings for the crown of Biggest Lush in Westeros. We'll see if any have what it takes when House of the Dragon returns for its second season on HBO and Max sometime this summer.
