The second season of HBO's zombie apocalypse show The Last of Us officially comes out next year, and we're already seeing some of the gorgeous poster designs from artist Greg Ruth. A couple highlight characters we're all expecting to make a glorious return, including Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey):
The second season of The Last of Us will be based on the video game The Last of Us: Part II from Naughty Dog. That game introduces a new characters named Abby, to be played on TV by Kaitlyn Dever. We won't give anything away except to say that Abby is hugely important to the story. She gets a poster, too:
Ruth has also been sharing alternative poster designs and artwork, much of which are completely gorgeous:
One design, featuring Joel and Ellie's faces silhouetted inside Abby's body, has gained particular attention from Forbes thanks to what it says about how Abby will be depicted on the show:
Greg Ruth is reportedly basing these designs on stills he's been given from the second season of the show. In the game, Abby is pretty jacked, a physically imposing character. Dever's silhouette doesn't look especially buff, so it doesn't look like the show will import over that specific aspect of Abby's character, although I'm sure Dever went through plenty of training.
Without spoiling things, Ellie and Abby are enemies in this next stretch of The Last of Us story. Abby's size and strength matter, but at 5'2", Dever is still taller than Ramsey, who stands at a towering 5'1". Get ready for a clash of titans.
Jokes aside, obviously what matters most will be Dever and Ramsey's ability to act through the very intense emotions at play in Abby and Ellie's story, and for that, the two actors are more than up to the task. The Last of Us season 2 comes out sometime next year on HBO and Max.
