Zack Snyder has proven himself to be one of the finest superhero movie makers out there. His history with the genre begins with Watchmen (2009), which was one of the best book-to-screen adaptations ever to hit theaters. Many fans know him from his work on the DC Extended Universe, which includes movies such as Man of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and his 4-hour director's cut of Justice League.

Snyder's movies have a a distinct style; you always know when you're watching a Zack Snyder film. The pacing, aesthetic, and creative decisions are all very distinct. Fellow superhero movie veteran Christopher Nolan, who created the beloved Dark Knight trilogy, believes Snyder's movies have influenced all facets of sci-fi, similar to what his Batman movies did well over a decade ago.

“There’s no superhero science-fiction film coming out these days where I don’t see some influence of Zack,” Nolan told The Atlantic. “When you watch a Zack Snyder film, you see and feel his love for the potential of cinema. The potential of it to be fantastical, to be heightened in its reality, but to move you and to excite you.”

This isn't the first time that Nolan has praised Snyder's work. Back in November, he discussed Snyder's adaptation of Alan Moore's Watchmen. “I’ve always believed ‘Watchmen’ was ahead of its time,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “The idea of a superhero team, which it so brilliantly subverts, wasn’t yet a thing in movies.”

“It would have been fascinating to see it released post-‘Avengers,'” he added.

Zack Snyder is feeling superhero fatigue

Snyder is currently taking a break from superheroes to tell his wildly ambitious, Star Wars-inspired space opera two-part movie Rebel Moon. The movie is currently doing pretty well on Netflix, managing an impressive 23.9M views in its opening days.

While he's working on Rebel Moon, Snyder's interest in superhero flicks is dwindling. “I have the same fatigue,” he said. “No one thinks they’re going to a one-off superhero movie.”

With James Gunn in the process of rebooting the DC Universe, Snyder currently has no interest of getting involved. “I’m not knocking on James Gunn’s door, going, like, ‘Bro, shoot me one of those sweet movies,’ he said.

Rebel Moon is streaming now on Netflix.
