As if the world doesn't have enough content from the Wizarding World, Max is developing an all-new Harry Potter series based on J.K. Rowling's books, and Daniel Radcliffe is calling for the fandom to embrace the new show rather than wallow in nostalgia for the original movie adaptations. The TV series has been in early development since 2021 before being officially ordered in 2023.
Since announcing a refreshed Harry Potter series, the first television project in the franchise, the team at Max have been hard at work. The project has already been given the green-light to adapt all seven books, beginning an immense 10-year journey. “This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years,” Max boss Casey Bloys said in a statement, naming it a "faithful adaptation."
Of course, when the project was announced, Harry Potter fans came out in droves against the series. It's been called a cash-grab, unnecessary, and so on. There are already petitions to boycott it. That said, most of the original Harry Potter are behind the series, including Harry himself, Daniel Radcliffe, who has asked Potterheads to offer their full support to the kids who are cast as Harry, Ron and Hermione. Nowadays, in the era of social media, it's so much easier for people to dish out hate, the new kids shouldn't be subject to this.
"I've got advice for everyone else," Radcliffe told ET. "Just like, let them be kids still. I can't imagine what it would have been like to do that in the age of social media. We were kind of a little bit before that."
While he's not particularly interested in making cameo appearances in the rebooted series, Radcliffe would like to meet the new kid playing Harry. "Hopefully, I will meet whoever that person is one day and I'll be face to face." If anyone can offer solid advice on playing Harry Potter, it's Daniel Radcliffe.
Which Harry Potter book is Daniel Radcliffe most exited to see adapted on TV?
While Radcliffe may not appear in the new show, it sounds like he might be watching it. He told PEOPLE that he was particularly excited to see the show adapt the final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: “I mean, it'll be a while before they get to that, I assume, but that was always one of my favorite of the books and of the films."
Max's Harry Potter series is expected to premiere sometime in 2026. Will you be watching?
