David Tennant promises a "perfect ending" for Good Omens

The third and final season of Good Omens is still a ways off, but David Tennant and Michael Sheen are already out here typing it up.

The second season of Good Omens ended with the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) parting on bad terms. It's the same old story: Crowley wanted the two of them to run away and spend their immortal lives together, but Aziraphale wanted to accept a cushy new job in heaven where he would get to usher in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Aziraphale invited Crowley to join him, but Crowley didn't want to because of lingering trauma from the war between heaven and hell fought untold ages ago, so they kissed and then parted, possibly forever. We've all been there.

Speaking to TV Insider, Sheen talked about the importance of making sure the third and final season of Good Omens lands for the fans. “One of the extraordinary things about being a part of [Good Omens] is the audience, the fans, the fandom of it," he said. "You have to take it very seriously because people get really affected by it. And seeing how people reacted to the end of Season 2 was extraordinary. So yeah, I hope, and I’m sure, that Season 3 will be a satisfying experience for everyone.”

Sheen says that the third season is "still in development" but that he's "very excited" to work with David Tennant again. Speaking to Pop Verse, Tennant was more direct, teasing the ending pretty explicitly. “I know where it’s going, and I defy anyone not to think that it’s the perfect ending," he said. "I’m not giving very much away with that. I’m not saying whether that’s good, bad, or indifferent, but it’s definitely perfect.”

So if Tennant knows how things wrap up, it sounds like he's seen scripts even if the cameras haven't started rolling yet. One complication the show will have to grapple with is its close association with Neil Gaiman. Not only is Good Omens based on the book of the same name written by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, but Gaiman is also the showrunner. Recently, the author has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault. Thus far, we haven't heard of Gaiman's troubles affecting the show, but they very well may, and soon.

So I'm not sure the path ahead is quite as clear as Tennant thinks, but for now, we'll say to expect new episodes of Good Omens sometime in 2026.
