Disney confirms that Star Wars: Ahsoka season 2 is in the works

Disney has big plans for its Star Wars universe, including a Mandalorian movie, another season of Ahsoka, and a movie that ties all of it together.

Yesterday, Disney put out a press release revealing that they're working on a movie called The Mandaorian & Grogu. Essentially, it's a movie version of The Mandalorian TV show. So far as we can tell, they're making this movie RATHER than making a fourth season of the series.

It's all part of Disney's plan to weave together different Star Wars TV shows. Star Wars over-mind Dave Filoni is currently working on a movie -- not The Mandalorian & Grogu -- that will yoke together stories from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka into one big climax. Originally, the fourth season of The Mandalorian was going to lead into that movie. Now, it looks like the fourth season will be a movie instead.

There's also another season of Ahsoka on the way to help set all of this up. The press release makes it official, telling us that Filoni is "currently developing Ahsoka Season 2." This is the closest thing we have to an official announcement that a second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka is happening. The first season followed the titular ex-Jedi (Rosario Dawson) as she dealt with the reemergence of Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), a villain she fought in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.

The question is whether fans will go along with all of this. Will fans who have gotten used to watching new seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+ be willing to go to the movie theater to keep up with the story? If they do, will they also be willing to watch the next season of Ahsoka and then see another movie after that which ties everything together? Disney is going all in on the idea of a multi-media Star Wars cinematic universe which spans both film and TV, but there's no guarantee that it will pay off.
