With the recent trio of 60th anniversary specials and the 2023 holiday special starring the newest Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), Doctor Who is officially back in our lives. It's been a pleasant return to time travel, space travel, and modern-day London.

With things back in action, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies is wasting no time creating more content. Just this week, the returning showrunner teased the 2024 Christmas special by giving fans a sneak peek at the set. He posted a picture on Instagram of himelf standing next to the BBC's Alan Yentob at the Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff. "Happy New Year's Eve!" he wrote. "And the point is – there, right behind us, that's one of the sets from the Christmas 2024 episode of Doctor Who! The future! Right there. But what terrible secrets does it hide..?"

We will have to wait to learn what secrets lie within the TARDIS, but luckily, we don't have to wait too long before Gatwa is back on our screens as the Doctor. His first official full season is set to premiere in May 2024, just a short few months away!

Following the 2023 holiday special, Doctor Who teased what's to come when the series returns, including a trip with the Doctor and his new companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) to Abbey Road Studios in London in the 60s. I have to say, I love this duo and I am so excited to see what adventures they go on together. Both Gatwa and Gibson are absolutely phenomenal and I can only imagine how their chemistry grows as the episodes go on.

Speaking to Digtal Spy and other media, Davies confirmed that season 14 (or "season 1," as some of the BBC's marketing labels it) will dig deeper into Ruby's origin story. We learned during the holiday special that Ruby is a foundling, left at the steps of a church when she was a baby and unable to locate her birth parents. Rest assured, we will be learning more about it in future episodes.

"This was quite a fable, about a foundling on the church doorstep in the snow," Davies said. "So that story then continues into the series. We come back to that church. There's all sorts of things. There were people in those scenes you don't know were there. We have a lot more to come."

I cannot wait! Until then, head to Disney+ (or BBC iPlayer in the UK) to stream episodes of Doctor Who.
