Let's dreamcast a live-action adaptation of The Silmarillion

One day, a studio will make a movie or TV show out of The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings pre-history book. And we're here to help them.

Hello, dear readers. It is I, your in-house dreamcast expert, coming back with another incredible cast list for another theoretical masterpiece.

The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien's book about the prehistory before The Lord of the Rings, is a high fantasy treasure about the early days of Middle-earth. Unlike straightforward novels like The Hobbit, The Silmarillion is a collection of mythopoeic stories stretching from the creation of the universe (Eä) to the brith of the elves to the breaking of the world and beyond. It's a compilation of tales about the struggles of gods, elves, men, and dwarves against the fallen god Melkor, who later becomes Morgoth. The bulk of the book is set during the First Age, when the Elves battled Morgoth for possession of the Silmarils, precious jewels that held the light of creation. These stories are filled with tragedy, heroism, love, and betrayal, and we would love to see them onscreen.

Though nothing of the sort has been announced, a live-action adaptation of The Silmarillion would be freaking epic. It'd be an opportunity to bring to life some of the most majestic and awe-inspiring tales of fantasy ever written. The visual potential alone is staggering; we could see the shimmering lights of Valinor, the magical Two Trees, the tragic beauty of Gondolin and the climactic War of Wrath. An adaptation could explore themes like the nature of evil, the corruption of power, and the cost of pride and ambition. Characters like Fëanor, Lúthien, Beren, and Turin Turambar are crying out for the right actor to play them.

With all of that in mind, let's take a look at a handful of actors who could bring some of the most legendary characters from The Silmarillion to life, and do them justice.

1) Lúthien Tinúviel - Lily Collins

Lily Collins would be my ideal choice to play Lúthien Tinúviel, the elven princess who falls in love with a human man, creating a bloodline passed down through the generations all the way to the time of The Lord of the Rings. Collins isn't perfect for the part just because of her near fairytale-like beauty. Think back to her role in Mirror Mirror; she was the epitome of a fairytale character of charm and grace. Lúthien is an elf known for her breathtaking beauty and fiery spirit. Collins has this magical ability to combine innocence with spicy, something she showcased brilliantly as Snow White. She danced and fought with elegance, radiating a presence that was both enchanting and formidable. This is Lúthien to a tee: a character who's as much about ethereal beauty as she is about inner strength and courage.

In The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, she played Clary, a young woman who discovers her own hidden powers and goes out into the world full of unseen dangers. Just like Lúthien -- who goes on a journey with Beren to steal a sacred Silmaril from the crown of the dark lord Morgoth -- Clary is thrust into impossiblel circumstances and rises to the challenge with a resilience that’s both relatable and inspiring. Much like Clary, Lúthien isn't just about looking the part; she's about embodying the spirit of someone who faces darkness with light. Collins would absolutely do justice to her journey.
